The MollyHawks is a Washington, D.C.
- based Celtic group performing an eclectic mix of historic and contemporary
music from the Golden Age of Sailing to Irish immigration. Together they create a unique blend of vocals and
instruments rarely heard in combination on stage.
Wolin’s blues/Irish-infused vocal styling is often performed in Gaelic and
accompanied on the hurdy-gurdy, guitar, or her potpourri of Celtic
percussion. Teri has an extensive performing career and was the founding
member of the Celtic band, Darby McGirr. There
she received an award in the "Best of Buffalo" vocalist category, and in 2013,
Teri took 1 Place in the Irish Vocalist Championships at both the
Buffalo and Washington DC Irish Feiseanna.
Kenny is an
award-winning concertina, bodhran and bones player and provides the vocal backbone of
our driving work songs, called “shanties.”
He has been a guest performer at the Mystic Seaport’s Sea Music
Festivals for seven consecutive years since 2005. Kenny also took 1
Place on concertina at the 2011 CCE Mid-Atlantic Fleadh and Maryland Irish
Festival, and in 2013, he took 1 Place in the Instrumental
Championships at the Buffalo and DC Feiseanna. He is currently a member
of “The President’s Own” Marine Band and leader of it’s Irish Ensemble
performing each year during the White House St. Patrick’s Day.
We are often joined by our virtuoso instrumentalist on Irish flute and whistles, Chris McFarlane. He also provides backing vocals and may launch
into unbridled lilting while our backs are turned. Chris
is currently also a member of “The President’s Own” and it’s Irish Ensemble.
The MollyHawks are available for festivals, private and community events, educational programs, as well as pubs, wineries and restaurants.
In addition, Kenny is an accomplished marimba soloist and is available for "atmospheric enhancement" at receptions and private events. Teri is a church music director and soloist, specializing in and available for Celtic and traditional weddings and service music. Together we are Ceol na Marimba combining Celtic guitar and marimba with unique arrangements of traditional session tunes and songs
